Trance on linux
Oh Yes... You Wished For Pictures.. Right?
Not my setup. But maybe in the future.
I love to do music stuff and play the guitar. Love music very much. Trying to make it into trance on pc too. Just for fun.
Always loved to make this stuff on the amiga the few hours I spent on that, around 15-20 years ago.
Pure source music
The only music that comes with full source. Mod format.
Mp3 approximates the ear and comes not with full source. Mod comes with the source for the music so you can just modify it!

Sometimes , Simple Is Best. Don't neglect the older style trackers. Have much to offer!
bzrplayer running in an uxterm on linux
SBLive 5.1 card for pc. Notice the gameport. It's the best way to hook up a midi keyboard it seems. Low latency.
Whether you use oss or alsa, there will be a very low latency on a modern pc. Only on older pcs may the delay be too high, if you use OSS. In which case you may have to use alsa.
Midi works very good on linux these days.
Sound blaster live 5.1 supports Live Drive (tm), which means you can hook up a microphone, or a guitar to it. Or anything else, casette recorder, discman, cd setup , anything you can imagine.
Here's what it looks like with Live drive..
I got such an old soundcard in my pc. It was very affordable (free).
Got the pc for free, would have gotten thrown out.
No need to buy new people. Especially not when good hardware gets thrown out. You will not find anything better than a livedrive today.
Livedrive has so many plugin capabilities.
Even optical fibre!
But the most beautiful is microphone volume control, remote possibility, input output on the front of your pc.
Meaning able to just plug in a keyboard, a guitar when you want, if you want.
Can't be more easy.
The sound quality is superb, sound blaster live has low noise and fast input/output (important for midi).
It makes it so easy to just put in a track from an ipod. Just plug in on front of pc from headphone hack.
Mix it in on top of your trance.
Took 15 secs?
Well easier said than done. But that's the theory. Elegant.
Nothing worse than having to go to back of pc, to plug in things all the time. Whether you are a serious gamer, or music maker!. It may come to annoy you. But there a livedrive is very smart. And it is not on expense of the sound. The sound quality does not get reduced audibly. At least not to me. But then I never did listen for it. Just never noticed.

The best linux sound editor. Flac, ogg, mp3 mixing, no problem. It is high quality, and been in development for 20 years.
Top producers use this one, and you should too if you are serious about music making, whether on linux or windows. Since it is free.
This one has many benefits over proprietary software often. But not always. Just a very good program, with limitless capabilities. Only the amount of memory, diskspace in your pc will set the limit.
